Two of Iron County School District schools were placed in a lockdown at around 10:30 a.m. for about an hour and 15 minutes today. Canyon View High School was placed in a Level 2 Lockdown. Because of its proximity, Canyon View Middle School was placed in a Level 1 Lockdown. The lockdown was initiated following an anonymous SafeUT tip that a student was heard making a threat to the school. Law enforcement and administrators have investigated the report and performed a security check of the entire CVHS facility. The student who allegedly made the threat is being interviewed by officials.
All students are safe and school has returned to normal. Out of an abundance of caution, there will be an increased law enforcement presence in the area for the remainder of the day.
We are appreciative of local law enforcement and the quick actions of school administrators in an effort to keep our students safe.
We also want to thank parents for their cooperation when Lockdown Safety Protocols are initiated. Those protocols help keep students safe and allows law enforcement to focus on their investigation.
