Often they are behind the scenes, but we wanted to bring our facility maintenance staff forward to show our appreciation for all they do to make schools run smoothly. Recently, Iron County School District administrators started their day a little early to put together a breakfast for the maintenance and facilities staff, including custodians, ground crews, warehouse and more. The group was recognized as the team of the year for all the work they do.

To celebrate National Teacher Appreciation Day, our local McDonald’s owner/operators have approved a fundraiser on Tuesday, May 7 from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. where 20% of all digital sales during that period will be tracked and donated to the Iron County School District Foundation. That money is used to support teachers and classrooms with funding that cannot be met through regular budgets.
It is a simple process for you to help:
Download the McDonald’s app and order your meals from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7
The restaurants will track all digital app sales and will donate the percentage to our district.

Parents and Guardians,
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we dealt with the emergency at Canyon View Middle School Thursday. In the midst of the emergency, school staff received conflicting information from medical personnel regarding carbon monoxide levels that should be further tested. As we have reviewed the response Thursday, it also has come to our attention that not all D Hall students were tested. Medical personnel on the scene advised at the time that only those with symptoms or concerns should be tested.
Students who were tested and measured over 6 were advised to be checked by a doctor. About 24 students and staff members were seen in the emergency room Thursday. Many were then sent to St. George for hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
If your student is experiencing carbon monoxide exposure symptoms, please consider having them tested in the emergency room. Those neurological symptoms include:
Headache
Nausea
Dizziness
Fatigue
Weakness
Shortness of breath
Slurred speech
Emergency room medical personnel may recommend hyperbaric oxygen therapy. You can also call the hyperbaric unit in St. George directly 435-251-4015 with any concerns or questions.
The school has been monitored this morning and cleared by the Cedar City Fire Department for occupation. No gas-powered equipment will be in use today in the remodel area of the construction until after school hours.
The safety of your students and our staff members is very important to us. At any time you as a parent feel it is unsafe for your child to be at school, we trust you to make the ultimate call with school attendance. Teachers will work with students to make up any missed assignments.
Sincerely,
Dr. Jeralyn Shaw

Due to snow accumulation, all Iron County School District schools will follow a two-hour delayed start on Thursday, Jan. 11.. School start times and transportation schedules will run two hours later than normal. Morning preschool is canceled. Please check secondary bell schedules for specific class period start times. The school day will end at the regular time.
Early morning practices and other before school activities will not be held. Any field trips scheduled for departure at the beginning of the school day are also canceled.

As during all adverse conditions, we encourage parents to make attendance decisions for their children based on their specific ability to get to school safely.

Students in Mr. Segler’s CTE class had an exciting day launching their paper rockets in front of the school. Design, flight patterns, and materials were all part of the project as students discussed variables and analyzed their rocket’s performance.
